Karwar: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the 2024 Vaddarse Raghurama Shetty Award for Social Justice Journalism and the 23rd Environmental and Development Journalism Award for the period from 2017 at Bengaluru today
During the event, Minister Byrathi Suresh, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmad, Legislative Council members Saleem Ahmad, K. Shivakumar, and Information Department Commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar, among others, were present. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for media to engage in raising awareness about social justice and the causes of inequality in society. He stressed that media opinions should be objective, noting that speculation has been given more priority recently.
Journalism should focus on uncovering the truth by distinguishing between fact and fiction. He stated that it is necessary to verify whether social justice is being achieved and if equitable living and sharing are being implemented. Social justice should not be limited to speeches, and there is a need to raise awareness about the reasons why equal opportunities are still not available to everyone in the country’s system.
He mentioned that the Dasara festival is not just a religious event but a cultural one, emphasizing the importance of coexistence in society and building unity in diversity. Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, had noted that true development occurs when the weaker sections of society progress. It is essential to work with this in mind. Working in accordance with the aspirations of the Constitution will benefit society, the state, and the country as a whole.
