Appointment of Part-Time Legal Volunteers in Uttara Kannada

Karwar: To provide easy access to legal services and assistance to every individual in the district, including rural residents, the disabled, women, and children, the Karwar District Legal Services Authority will appoint part-time legal volunteers for a period of one year, announced Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Divyashree C.M. during a press conference held at Karwar court on Tuesday.

The recruitment will include teachers/retired teachers, former panchayat members, retired government employees from various departments, senior citizens, social workers involved in legal services, women, transgender individuals, members of backward communities, minorities, other respected individuals, MSW students and teachers, Anganwadi workers, doctors/medical practitioners, students and law students (until they register as lawyers), NGO members and club members with a non-political service mindset, members of women’s self-help groups, Maitri associations, educated long-term prisoners with good conduct, widows of deceased defense personnel, ex-servicemen or their dependents residing in civilian areas, and spouses or adult children of currently serving defense personnel who have studied at least up to the 10th grade. Approximately 50 to 100 individuals will be appointed in the district.

Selected part-time legal volunteers will receive necessary training and identification cards. They will be required to attend activities and programs related to the District Legal Services Authority office from morning to evening, for which they will receive an honorarium of Rs. 750, and Rs. 375 for half-day work. They will also be reimbursed for basic/common travel expenses incurred while resolving other useful public issues for the authority.
