Edible Oil Transporting Lorry Overturns! Oil Spills on National Highway

Ankola: A terrifying accident occurred late Saturday night in Harawad village, Ankola taluk, where a lorry narrowly escaped a fatal disaster.

The lorry,  driver who was allegedly under the influence of liquor lost control over it. The lorry overturned on the road causing hundreds of liters of edible oil to spill onto the highway, creating panic in the area.

The goods lorry, belonging to Priya Oil Company and bearing the registration number MH 51 C 4448, was traveling from Hubballi towards Goa. Around 11:30 PM, near Harwada, it veered onto the opposite side of the one-way road and overturned.

The accident caused the oil drums in the lorry to rupture, spilling oil onto the road and completely disrupting traffic for some time. Amid the chaos, there were also allegation that   some people at the scene attempted to steal materials from the overturned lorry.

Police personnel rushed to the scene after the incident and brought the situation under control. Although the driver and co-workers sustained no injuries, they miraculously escaped unharmed.

According to locals, the primary cause of the accident was the driver’s alcohol consumption, and an investigation is underway in this regard. The lorry crew received preliminary medical treatment.
